Here is a card using the Hostess set Gift of Love. You can't buy this set but you can earn it with a $150+ order!
Whisper White Thick cardbase - 4.25 x 11, scored
Smoky Slate - 5.25 x 4
Mint Macaron - 5 x 3.75
Smoky Slate - 4.75 x 3.5
Shimmery White - 4.5 x 3.25
All can be adjusted if you want to make anything larger or smaller
On the Shimmery White, I used the background wash stamp from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set. I first stamped off with Mint Macaron ink and without re-inked stamped two more times so it is darker at the base and lighter at the top. I then stamped with Smoky Slate the main image using the flower stamp from Gift of Love. Using the small dots stamp from Timeless Textures I stamped randomly on the front with Smoky Slate.
Next I attached the mint macaron layer to the larger smoky slate layer. Then I attached the shimmery white layer to the smaller smokey slate layer.
Before adding this layer to the main card, I added ribbon (in other cards I added the ribbon across all 4 layers before attaching to the card base). I cut ~16 inches of Mint Macaron Sheer Linen ribbon and centered it over the flower stems and tied into a bow.
TIP: Turn your card upside down and tie the bow that way--it will make the ends hang down correctly. To help with tying, I added a glue dot underneath the first tie so I could use both hands to make the bow.
Once I had the ribbon tied, I added the top layer to the mint layer using fast fuse. You want to use something strong since you have the ribbon on the back and want it to stick. Then I attached all 4 layers to the card base.
Using some scraps of Shimmery White cardstock, I stamped the sentiment (from Flourishing Phrases) in Mint Macaron. I cut it out using the Layering Ovals framelits dies. I then backed it with a scalloped oval of Mint Macaron from the same dies. I attached the sentiment using dimensionals.
It's never easy to make sympathy cards when you may be swamped with emotions. I recommend you make some up and keep them in your stash so that you have some ready to send when you need one.
This card can be made more simply by removing layers.
This card was inspired by a card by Nancy Stanelle. I used different sentiments, different colors, and some different stamps but the layout is very much the same. :)
