Moon Baby Swap Cards

Moon baby swaps

I've made these cards as swaps at OnStage Savannah and decided to do the two colors

Moon baby blue

These cards used a base of Soft Sky cardstock and Melon Mambo cardstock. I then took card fronts of Dapper Denim and Pink Pirouette cut to 4 x 5-1/4 and ran them through the Big Shot using the Lucky Stars embossing folder.

I cut the large stars using gold glimmer paper and the Stars Framelits. At the same time I cut out the small star using the star from the Sliding Star framelits. I cut the smaller stars using the same framelits but one size down using Soft Sky and Pink Pirouette card stock.

Then sentiment is from the Moon Baby stamp set and was stamped in Dapper Denim and Melon Mambo ink.

Moon baby preview

Using watercolor paper, I stamped the moon baby in Basic Black archival ink. Let sit a little to be sure it's totally dry. I then took the Watercolor pencils and colored around the edges and anywhere I wanted it to be a little darker. I used Daffodil Delight for the moon; Pacific Point and Melon Mambo for the baby's outfit; Calypso Coral for the skin. By putting down only a little color, you can make them very pale. Add more color where you want it darker. I took my aqua painter and pulled the color from the edges to color the images. I added blush to the cheeks with the Melon Mambo by first marking my grid paper with several swipes of the watercolor pencil and then picking up small amounts with my aquapainter. I then used Wink of Stella over all the moon to give it some shimmer.

Once dry, I fussy cut the image out using my paper snips (Stampin' Up!'s snips are very sharp). I cut off the bow and star that hangs down from the moon because I was going to add my own.

Moon baby pink

I wanted the moon baby to swing freely from the stars at the top. To do this I first layered the two large stars (I used glue dots to add the colored star to the glimmer star). On the back of the layered stars I added a doubled strand of the gold metallic thread by putting the thread behind a dimensional.

To add the thread to the moon baby, I first made a hole at the base of the baby's hand using my piercing tool. I then put the thread in a needle and ran it through the moon baby's hand from the back and down to below the moon. I used a dimensional to hold the thread in place behind the moon. Don't take the back off of this dimensional so that the moon will swing freely. (you could also remove it and rub the dimensional with the embossing buddy or anything that will take all the sticky off.

At the bottom of the threads now hanging from the moon, I added the small glimmer star using glue dots. To keep those glue dots from sticking to the card front, I took a small piece of card stock to cover the glue dots on the back.

This card took a little more time than I wanted to spend on swap cards, but it was so much fun!
