September Swap--Autumn!

September swap

The swap challenge for September was for a card that epitomized autumn. I immediately visualized falling leaves. If you would like to receive a handmade card from me, just place an order and I will send one to you!

This card has a Very Vanilla Card based, topped with a layer (5.25 x 4) of Cajun Craze. The top layer is Very Vanilla cut to 5 x 3.75. This very top layer is embossed with the Woodland Embossing Folder. I love this folder--you can do so much with it!

Before doing anything else with this card, I decided I wanted to watercolor a leaf for it. I took Watercolor card stock and spritzed it with some water. Then I took my Aqua Painter and some ink from the lid of Crushed Curry ink pad and spread all over the paper in a random pattern. Next I took some Always Artichoke to add a little green. Then I switched to Cajun Craze, added some Cherry Cobbler, and finished with Chocolate Chip. You have to move all over the paper so that the colors don't muddle. You could paint and let each color dry in between but I was too impatient for that. If the colors are too defined when you finish, you can spritz the paper again and let the colors run into each other some. Let the paper dry completely.

On the Big Shot, with my magnetic platform and using the Leaflets Thinlits Dies, I cut out leaves from the watercolor paper and also from the new Copper foil paper and the Pumpkin Pie Glimmer Paper. I put the leaves together with glue dots. I took some of the Linen thread (about 10 inches) and wrapped it around the stems and tied it into a bow.

After embossing the top layer, I took a sponge dauber and using Crumb Cake ink, I lightly ran the dauber over the trees to give them some depth. I would first dab off on scrap paper and then put on the card front. Otherwise, the color would be darker than I wanted. To attach this embossed layer, I used Fast Fuse. When you have an embossed layer, regular adhesive doesn't always hold very well because of the irregular surface of the piece.

The sentiment is from the Beautiful Banners stamp set. It is stamped in Cajun Craze on a piece of Very Vanilla (2" x 1") and then banner cut on one end. I took a sponge dauber and daubed along the edges with Cajun Craze. The sentiment is then added to the card with dimensionals.

This card really put me in the mood for fall (although it was in the 90's while I was making it!).

Happy Stamping!
