Swirly Bird Mickey Mouse Card

Swirly bird mickey

My daughter asked me to make a birthday card for the son of one of her good friends--he is turning one and is having a Mickey Mouse- themed party. I thought of all the cards I had seen on Pinterest of using the Swirly Bird stamp set to make a Mickey Mouse card and set out to make him one.

I first thought I would use the Swirly Bird dies for this card but ended up just stamping--the dies were bigger than I wanted to use. I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock cut to 5.25" x 4". I used my Embossing Buddy and wiped it over the top of the card stock. I then inked up my stamps with Versamark and stamped them onto the card stock. I then covered it with Black Embossing Powder and heat set. Be sure to wipe away any stray pieces of embossing powder so it doesn't show up where you don't want it. Using the Embossing Buddy really helps with that! Then I check for any strays and clean them off using a very fine paint brush.

I wanted the bottom to look like Mickey's shorts so I chose a piece of scrap Basic Black to go underneath the head and then another scrap of Real Red to fit on the bottom. The black piece was 4 x 3/4" and the red was 4 x 1-7/8". Both of these were adhered to the bottom of that Whisper White card stock. Since Mickey's shorts have two white buttons, I searched for white buttons and realized I didn't have any of the Stampin' Up! ones (oh, no!) but I found some basic ones in my stash. I then glued the buttons on with the Fine-tip Glue Pen.

I stamped the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes in Basic Black on a scrap of Whisper White and punched it out with the Classic Label Punch. I then put it on the card using a strip of dimensionals (used from the edge of the dimensionals sheet--save every bit!) I then adhered the card front to the card base of Basic Black.

For the inside, since the card base is black, I used a piece of Whisper White cardstock cut to 5.25" x 4". I used the Number of Years stamp set and then cut out the #1 in Red Glimmer Paper using the Large Number Dies. You can use Mono Tombow glue or Fine-tip Glue pen to adhere the number to the card stock but what I do is run a piece of cardstock through my Xyron and then diecut the number (or whatever I want to cut out), thus creating a sticker that is great for die cuts that have a lot of little bits.

I think this card turned out really cute and I hope the mom of the recipient likes it!

Happy Stamping!
