Purple Posy and the April Paper Pumpkin Kit

I just received my April Paper Pumpkin kit and made the cards as shown in the kit.  There were some issues... I knew that with Distinktive stamps, you can't stamp them using a juicy ink pad.  I used the ink spot in the kit but learned I needed to ink up really well and then stamp off.  Since these are photopolymer stamps, use a mouse pad or our paper piercing mat.  They need a little more "give" to get a good image.  Here is a photo of how they should look:

Mine weren't too off the mark but just weren't as clear as the samples.

Still, I really wanted to use the stamps to make more cards.  I decided to make one using a new color "purple posy" (you'll be able to order it beginning June 3)and the main flower stamp lends itself to paper tole.  Here is my card:

I created my own pretty paper by stamping the flower in purple posy and the leaves in pear pizzazz on whisper white (5 1/4" x 4").  I then stamped 3 more flowers on another sheet of whisper white plus 3 more leaves.  I fussy cut one flower completely, the next one I cut moving in one layer of petals and the final one I simply cut out the middle.  I layered them together with dimensionals and added 3 leaves to the flower by adhering to the bottom layer. I added a gold faceted gem to the center and made centers of the stamped paper flowers using the Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker.

The sentiment on the front (from the paper pumpkin kit) was stamped in gorgeous grape on whisper white and die cut with the layering ovals.  I layered that on a label of purple posy punched with the Story Label punch.  I wrapped a piece of Pear Pizzazz Shimmer Ribbon around the card front and added the sentiment label with dimensionals.

All the cuts:

  • Purple Posy: 8 1/2" x 11" scored at 4 1/2" and scrap for the label
  • Whisper White:  4" x 5 1/4"  (2 of these)--diecut one for the inside and scrap for the sentiment
  • Pear Pizzazz: 4" x 5 1/4"; 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"

For the inside, I diecut the whisper white and stamped the sentiment from Golden Afternoon in Gorgeous Grape.  then I stamped off the flower in purple posy in the bottom corner.

If you are a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, this shows how you can continue to use your exclusive stamps once your kit is complete.  Next month we're getting a kit designed by Shelli Gardner, the co-founder of Stampin' Up!  You won't want to miss out on that!  You can subscribe here (be sure and subscribe before May 10 to get this kit with its pretty box).

Have fun with your kits!

OnStage Charlotte Gifts

Normally at OnStage events, I swap 100+ cards or 3-D items.  This time I just wasn't into it.  Just didn't want to stamp or do anything.  BUT I did do gifts.  I started out making gifts for all those in our stamping group.  Then I decided to go ahead and make gifts for the Stampin' Up! employees there.  (I hope I made enough!)  Swaps need to use current products and I wanted to make some things using the SAB ribbon so I'll just gift these.

Here are the tags I made:

I used the Stitched Labels dies and then stamped the sentiment in Gorgeous Grape.  I added the flower using Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather ink.  The leaves were done in Pear Pizzazz.

Here is the Pizza Box I made for gifts.  They will hold either a sugar cookie or chocolates:

The HIghland Heather cardstock on the top was 3 1/4" x 3 1/4".  The gingham sides were cut to 3 3/8" x 7/8".  I used the 1/2 punch to punch out the small bit for the front of the box. Once I got that done, I put a glue dot on the top in the middle to hold the ribbon and wrapped 19" of ribbon around the box, tying and making a bow on the front top.

TIP:  If you are putting anything in the box, be sure and put it in there before tying your bow.

I'll be heading to Charlotte tomorrow and can't wait to see the new catalog and all the new products!

I got my shipment of my Stampin' Up! Storage items in yesterday but didn't have time to deal with it.  I can't wait to return home and work on that reorganization of my craft room!  I'll be sure to take lots of photos so you can see the products and how versatile they are!

Distinktive Paper Pumpkin Kit

Today is the last day to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin to get the April kit.  It features Stampin' Up!'s patent-pending Distinktive stamps!

Wondering just what this new trend is all about?  Here's a video you can watch and here are all the details about the stamps:

  1. Distinktive stamps give you photo-realistic images with just one stamp.  They have a special texture that gives added depth and dimension in a single stamp (no more trying to line up stamps for 2 or 3-step stamping!)
  2. These stamps are available only from Stampin' Up! and are made using a patent-pending process.
  3. Distinktive stamps are available in red rubber and photopolymer; Paper Pumpkin's April kit includes photopolymer stamps.
  4. Shop  Distinktive stamps in the online store by searching "Distinktive" or look for the Distinktive icon in Stampin' Up! catalogs.

A Paper Pumpkin kit is a great way to try out these new stamps to see if they are something you will like.  For ~$20 you'll receive a set of exclusive stamps, cardstock, diecuts, embellishments--all you need to complete the kit!  This kit makes 9 cards (3 different designs) and includes an adorable gift box.  Coordinating colors are Basic Black, Calypso Coral, Flirty Flamingo, Gray Granite, Mint Macaron and So Saffron.

Want to purchase just the one kit to try it out?  You can purchase one in the online store (but be aware you'll pay shipping on the kit--if you subscribe shipping is included).  When you purchase kits, Stampin' Up! will send you an activation code.  You will need to put in that code at the Paper Pumpkin website prior to 11:50 pm MT on April 10 to ensure you get the April kit.

Distinktive stamps create some gorgeous images.  If your ink pad is very juicy, you might want to stamp off first or push some of that ink to the side.  Experiment some before you make your final project!

50th Wedding Anniversary Card

We were invited to events celebrating my bunko buddy, Dede, and her husband Arlan's 50th wedding anniversary.  So of course, I needed to make them a card!

The numbers dies are retired but I'll never give them up!  I use them all the time!

All the details:

  • The Very Vanilla Thick card base is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
  • The Gold Foil piece is 5 3/8" x 4 1/8"
  • Very Vanilla 5" x 3 3/4"
  • Scrap of Very Vanilla

To save thickness and to use my gold foil paper better, I first cut it out to size and then I cut out the 5 and 0 plus the banner out of the middle.  I then took the large Very Vanilla piece and embossed it with the Country Floral embossing folder.  I attached the embossed piece to the gold foil "frame" and added those to the card base.

I cut out the Stitched Oval and stamped the sentiment in Versamark and then covered with Gold Embossing Powder and heat embossed.  After attaching the sentiment to the gold foil banner, I attached the banner to the card front with dimensionals.  Attach the numbers using mini dimensionals.

For the inside, I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Black.

After completing my card and taking my photos, I decided it needed a little something more--so I added gold pearls to some of the flower centers.  It really made it more special!

Fable Friends Easter Card

This month the theme for my tutorial coop is Easter or spring.  I chose Fable Friends as my stamp set for my card.  Isn't that bunny absolutely adorable?  Looks so much like Peter Rabbit!

You know how I love to watercolor and I created this card using Shimmery White cardstock, Stazon Ink and the ink from the lids of my ink pads using a dry Aqua Painter and a jar of water.

This was a fun card to make and I love, love, love that bunny!

One tip I can give you for using these stamps--your ink pad should not be too "juicy".  If you aren't getting clear images, you can use a straight edge and clear some ink off to one side or you can try stamping-off to see if that works.  Have any problems or questions about these stamps?  I'll be happy to help!
