P layful birthday card using Stampin' Up! products and paper-piecing.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer and Paper Snips Scissors:
- card from Lemon Lolly Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Balmy Blue Cardstock
- 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" from Old Olive Cardstock
- 1-3/4" x 3-1/2" from Lemon Lolly Cardstock
- 1" x 2-1/2" of tiny white plusses on dark blue background design from Mediterranean Blooms 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper
- single lemon with leaf and two small flowers cut out by hand using Paper Snips Scissors from closely packed small lemons design from Mediterranean Blooms 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper
Pick out the large, open frame die and the large frame of leaves die from the Citrus Blooms Dies. Put them on top of the Old Olive rectangle on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so the leaves frame is centered inside the open frame. Run through the machine. Use the paper-piercing tool and Take Your Pick Die Brush on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces.
Note: You are using the large, leafy frame for this project. Save the interior Old Olive cut out for another project or just recycle it.
WITHOUT ADHERING, lay the leafy frame cut out on top of the horizontal Balmy Blue rectangle so it is centered.
As you are ready to stamp using the Bird's Eye View Set or Hooray For Surprises Set, place the cardstock or designer paper on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp. Put a piece of Grid Paper on top of the Mat to protect it from ink.
Mount the "make a wish" sentiment from the Hooray For Surprises Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp the sentiment on the Balmy Blue rectangle so it is inside the leafy frame near the top right side as shown.
Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the leafy frame in place to the stamped Balmy Blue rectangle. Leave the leaves along the interior edges unglued.
Adhere the stamped Balmy Blue rectangle with leafy frame attached to the front of the Lemon Lolly card.
If you haven't already done so, use Paper Snips Scissors to cut out by hand a single lemon with leaf and two small flowers from the closely packed small lemons design from the Mediterranean Blooms 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper.
If desired, use the side of the brush tip of the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Marker to carefully outline the edges of the lemon cut out.
Adhere the lemon cut out to the card front so the top of the stems are tucked under the upper left corner of the inside of the leafy frame as shown.
Mount the large bird with his head on the right and one wing showing image from the Bird's Eye View Set on Block C. Ink it up with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of the horizontal Lemon Lolly strip leaving room to cut it out. Leave the stamp on the block.
Re-ink the large bird with his head on the right and one wing showing image on Block C with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of the horizontal tiny white plusses on dark blue Mediterranean Blooms Designer Paper strip so you get the wing.
Cut out the bird image by hand using Paper Snips Scissors. Don't worry about cutting out the feet, just cut them off.
Use the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Marker to color in the bird's beak and tail feathers and highlight the spots on his chest.
Cut out the wing image on the designer paper strip by hand using Paper Snips Scissors.
Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the wing cut out over the wing on the colored bird cut out.
Adhere the colored bird cut out with designer paper wing attached to the front of the card as shown so he is tucked under some of the leaves along the bottom interior edge on the left side.
Mount the small bird with his head on the left and one wing showing image from the Bird's Eye View Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it on the remaining end of the horizontal Lemon Lolly strip leaving room to cut it out. Leave the stamp on the block.
Re-ink the small bird with his head on the left and one wing showing image on Block B with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it on the remaining end of the horizontal tiny white plusses on dark blue Mediterranean Blooms Designer Paper strip so you get the wing.

Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the wing cut out over the wing on the colored bird cut out.
Use a Stampin' Dimensional to adhere the colored bird cut out with designer paper wing attached to the front of the card as shown so he is tucked under some of the leaves along the bottom interior edge and just overlaps the right side of the large bird cut out. You may need to use Paper Snips Scissors to snip one of the leaves along the bottom interior of the frame so you can let them overlap the top of the popped up bird.
Cut a 16" long piece of the Lemon Lolly twine included in the Baker's Twine Three Color Pack.
Fold the twine in half. Then, tie a small bow in the center of the folded twine. Trim the ends.
Tip: If your twine wants to curl, grab one end tightly between the fingers of one hand. Then, pinch the twine between the fingers of your other hand and pull along the length of the twine a few times while pinching. This will help to straighten out the twine.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the twine bow to the front of the card at a slight angle as shown so it is centered over the top of the lemon cut out tucked into the top left corner of the leafy frame.
