T
his pretty little kitty in the window scene was inspired by Michelle Zindorf, a very talented fellow SU demo who shared a similar card on her blog recently.
I modified a few steps to share the idea with my stamp club friends and I hope you guys enjoy it!
Project Recipe
1.)Use the arched /semi- circle framelit and the lg square(approx 3" square) framelit from the stained glass thinlets die set with a piece of black cardstock to cut out two stained glass window shapes. Reserve these diecut pieces for later.
2. use the Tin Type embossing folder to dry emboss the Smoky Slate cardstock piece. Use a sponge dauber or sponge and Smoky Slate ink to lightly highlight the raised/embossed portions of the cardstock and give a little interest/ personality to the base layer of the card..
3) Adhere a length of skinny black ribbon approx 1/4th inch vertically along the left edge of the Smoky Slate layer, tuck under the edges and secure with adhesive.
4). adhere the embossed and sponged layer to the card base.
1.) lay out the 3x4" white cardstock piece and place the black stained glass window pieces over top to determine how you want to arrange the stars when you stamp the night sky.
I liked having the moon showing in the top part of the lower window pane since the moon showed up better in the final card. Once you decide where you want to put the moon go ahead and tack the 3/4th inch white circle "mask" in that spot.
2) pat down the white cardstock with the embossing buddy then tap off any residue.
3) Use Encore Silver embossing ink to stamp star images and the "stardust" swirl pattern randomly around on the white panel, apply clear embossing powder generously then tap off the excess and return powder to the jar.
4) use heat tool to melt the embossing powder then sponge the white cardstock lightly with Blueberry Bushel ink. You can always add more to make the clear embossing show up better but you can't remove it if you overdo it so go easy until you are satisfied with the look. Leave the mask for the moon in place while sponging. Take a dry tissue or paper towel and rub over the whole card to remove any excess ink from the melted clear embossing powder. Once you have finished remove any ink residue from your fingers with hand sanitizer, remove the "moon" circle mask from the cardstock. You should have a beautiful night sky with a full moon and twinkling stars!
5.)Dot your preferred adhesive (I used Tombow with the fine tip) onto the back of the two window pieces and adhere them over your starry night scene. Once. The adhesive has dried, use scissors to trim away the portions of the cardstock outside of the frame leaving a nice smooth arched window.
Use your paper snips to trim away all of the excess exposed white cardstock sticking outside of the black window diecut pieces, if there are any white areas showing outside the framed window panel after trimming just sponge a little black ink around the edges. Use the short narrow piece of black cardstock(about 1/4th to 1/2 inch thick) from your kit and adhere it along the bottom edge of the window sill to give your black cat a nice window sill perch to look out at the night sky. The cat can face right or left, whichever you prefer.
Stamp your desired greeting on inside of card..I used "Thinking of You" from Rooted in Nature stamped in Blueberry Bushell ink, then added a few more silvery stars.
