T his is a simple but oh so cute shaker card featuring Stampin' Up's Snailed It stamp set and DSP.
Project Recipe
The card base is made from Pool Party cardstock cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4".
To cut the opening for shaker dome, use either snowglobe die from the retired Still Scenes stamp set OR use the 2 1/4" circle die from the Layering Circles dies since they are both about the same size. Cut the opening on the right side of the card front but not too near the top of the side.
Now you need to cut a piece of cardstock or DSP to cover the backside of the opening. You can pretty much use whatever you want, including plain white. I used the striped card that was included in the January Sending Hearts Paper Pumpkin kit. Cut it large enough that it covers the entire opening. Now, fussy cut a few mushrooms from the Snail Mail DSP and glue them onto the paper covering the opening.
Sprinkle a small amount of sequins on top.
Before adhering the shaker dome, wipe the inside with a used dryer sheet to remove static which will keep the sequins from sticking to the inside of the dome. Peel off the sticky strip from the bottom of the dome and adhere it over your image. Gently press down on all edges.
Peel off the sticky strip around the top of the shaker dome. To cover the stickiness, cut a circle from Pool Party cardstock using the LARGEST scalloped circle die and 2nd largest plain circle die from the Layering Circles dies. This creates a circle with a hole in the center that you can place around the dome to cover the sticky part and makes the dome look more finished.
I then adhered a black scalloped strip from the Paper Pumpkin kit, but you could just as easily cut a strip from black cardstock or really any colored cardstock. The strip of black helps to ground the image of the snail so that it doesn't look like it's just hanging in the air.
I fussy cut two more matching mushrooms and glued them to the side of the dome. Truth be told, I did this because the scalloped circle didn't completely cover the sticky tape so I needed a way to cover it. It actually adds to the scene. Then I popped up the Snail on dimensionals.
The snail on my card is from the Paper Pumpkin kit, but you could cut one out from the DSP.
For the sentiment, I used the Heartfelt stamp set from the Mini catalog. I stamped the sentiment "So lucky to have a friend like you" on Petal Pink cardstock using Poppy Parade ink. I then cut it out using the 2nd smallest scalloped circle from the Layering Circles dies and glued it over a piece of Pool Party sheer ribbon folded in half.
So, there you have it. A super cute and different card that you can give for Valentine's Day, a birthday or just because. I hope you give this card a try and let me know what you think.
