P layful birthday card using altered designer paper and Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Real Red Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Smoky Slate Cardstock
- 3" square from Real Red Cardstock
- 3" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" of red and vanilla striped design from Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper, cut so the stripes are vertical on the horizontal strip
- 1" x 3-1/2" from Real Red Cardstock
- small scrap from Whisper White Cardstock
Insert the Smoky Slate rectangle into the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder so the lines are vertical on the horizontal rectangle. Use the line drawn on the front of the folder to help you line up the cardstock. Place the folder with the paper inside on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine platform and run through the machine.
Adhere the dry embossed Smoky Slate rectangle to the front of the Real Red card.
Unlock the Banner Triple Punch. Slide one short edge of the Toile Tidings Designer Paper strip into the punch as far as it will go. Punch. Repeat with the other end.
Make sure you have some paper (Grid Paper works great) at your work space.to protect the work surface. The Stampin' Blends Markers will bleed through the cardstock/designer paper that you are coloring so you need to protect your work surface.
Place the punched designer paper strip on the work paper and color in the vanilla stripes with the Dark Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends Marker using the fine tip.
Cut the colored, punched designer paper strip in half vertically down the center.
Adhere the colored, punched designer paper strip halves to the front of the card so they are about 1-1/2" from the top edge and the punched tips almost touch the left and right edges of the Smoky Slate rectangle. Make sure the top edges of the pieces are in line with each other.
Mount the jumping zebra image from the Zany Zebras Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it in the center of the white square.
Mount the shadow line image from the Zany Zebras Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the white square so it is under the back end of the zebra and the bottom is in line with the bottom of his front hooves.
Pick out the smooth square die that cuts out a smooth square that is 2-3/8" wide from the Layering Squares Dies. Put it on top of the stamped zebra and shadow image on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so the images are centered. Run through the tool.
Place the zebra and shadow square cut out on the work paper and color with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas.
Use the Dark Real Red Stampin' Blends to color in the hooves, lips, tail hair, and white spaces in the mane.
Use the Dark Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends to color in the edge of the ear, the stripes on the body, and the remaining hair in the mane.
Use the Color Lifter Stampin' Blends as needed to remove excess color.
Pick out the smooth square die that cuts out a smooth square that is 2-5/8" wide from the Layering Squares Dies. Put it on top of the Real Red square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the tool.
Adhere the colored zebra and shadow square cut out to the center of the Real Red square cut out.
Adhere the matted zebra and shadow square cut out to the front of the card so it is centered over the punched designer paper pieces and covers the space between them. The top of the square should be about 3/4" from the top of the card.
Mount one of the single line sentiments from the Zany Zebras Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it in the center of the Real Red strip near one edge. Leave room to punch it out.
Unlock the Classic Label Punch. Hold it upside down so you can see the punching area. Slide the stamped sentiment into the punch and get it centered in the punching area. Punch.
Use Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment punch out to the front of the card so it overlaps the right side of the zebra square and the bottom edge of the right side of the designer paper banner punch out.
Mount the party hat image from the Zany Zebras Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the scrap of white cardstock.
Place the party hat image on the work paper and color with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas.
Use the Dark Real Red Stampin' Blends to color in the dots and pom pom on the hat.
Use the Dark Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends to color in the rest of the hat.
Carefully cut out the party hat image by hand using Paper Snips.
Use a tiny piece of Mini Stampin' Dimensional cut from the edge of the sheet to adhere the party hat cut out to the front of the card so it appears to be on the top of the zebra's head. It may go over the top of the square a bit.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up 3 rhinestones from a sheet of Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere them to the card front as shown.
